1994 Song of the Year - "Melody of Love" by Donna Summer

by Paul Siciliano

So in college, while everyone was into alternative and grunge, I went back, to the disco era.  I was a huge fan of disco, and no singer was bigger than Donna Summer.  Heck, I even had a shrine to her in my college dorm room.  I also got plenty of condolences when she passed away last year.

Imagine my excitement, each time Donna Summer would release a new track, and almost all of them were dance.  "Melody Of Love (Wanna Be Loved)" was a powerful tune.  It also showed that dance was not going to be swamped by alternative.  This was also the time of Ace of Base.  Looking back, alternative was not as big as people may have thought, especially those on college campuses.

One of my favorite things about Donna Summer and her videos, she really doesn't dance.  Who would have thunk it from the Queen of Disco.
