the colbys episode 47 - “betrayals”
Jason’s little stunt did not go as planned. Phillip explains to the family what had happened. Hoyt Parker was his friend who had escaped with him but had passed away from malaria. Since Hoyt had connections in the arms smuggling business, he assumed his identity. There was nothing for him in Los Angeles anyway. Phillip becomes angered when Jason suggests that Phillip killed Connie. No matter, Phillip will respect Jason’s orders and leave the Colby mansion for good.
Jeff does not like this side of Jason. Regardless of what Phillip did, he is still Jason’s brother and Jason should help him. Is Jason doing this because he really believes Phillip murdered Connie or because he is afraid that Phillip wants Frankie? Phillip does admit to Jeff that he returned to Los Angeles to stop Jason’s wedding to Frankie and not because of Connie’s death. Jeff still wants to help Phillip with his $2 million problem. He will not give Phillip $2 million but will loan him the $300,000 to cover the stock loss that will happen if Phillip sells his stock. Why not just buy Phillip’s stock for $2 million?
Jason will not even allow Jeff to lend Phillip the $300.000 but Jason has no power to stop Jeff. Jason really is not thinking clearly about this. Does he really believe that Phillip will just go away or that Phillip will not find another way to get the $2 million, and then some? Phillip makes an offer to Zach Powers. For $3 million, Phillip will give Zach access to top secret Colby Enterprises contract proposals on the IMOS project. You really should have paid your brother $2 million, Jason.
Phillip is not just a threat to Jason in the Boardroom, but also in the bedroom. Phillip will not leave Frankie alone and Frankie is doing everything in her power to keep Phillip away from her (out of sight, out of mind). Partially as a result of Jason’s stunt, Frankie refuses to set a new date for her wedding to Jason. Jason is pissed but Frankie feels embarrassed to marry Jason now that she knows that Phillip is alive. Strange, Frankie felt no embarrassment in marrying her sister’s husband of 28 years.
Kolya has a favor to ask Sable. He needs to get out of his contract even sooner - New York wants him in two weeks. Sable is willing to do so since it is a great opportunity for Kolya, but how will Bliss handle it? Bliss does not seem interested in moving to New York but when Kolya proposes to her, she is game.
Monica blames herself for Scott learning the truth. Cash assures her that Scott would have learned it eventually. Too many people knew - including Zach Powers, who tried to blackmail Cash. Monica does not know how Zach found out but she now knows how her mother found out. Monica confronts Sable and tells her the dirty game that Zach is playing, a game that includes promising to work with Adrienne if there is every a custody suit.
Sable is livid and confronts Zach. Sable cannot believe that Zach would betray her like that, but Zach says they betray each other and will continue to do so, it shows the feelings that they have for each other. Sable is done with this and swears she will never forgive Zach. Add Zach to the list of people Sable will never forgive. And, to prove her point, she returns his engagement ring.
Adrienne believes that she has the upper hand on the situation and tells Sable that she is returning to Washington DC with Scott and Monica will never see Scott again. Sable replies that Zach can do nothing to stop the courts from finding Adrienne an unfit mother. Well, Adrienne swears she will now become the perfect mother. And, just in case she cannot do that, Adrienne tells Cash that she will give him the divorce but will not agree to joint custody. Cash can have the divorce, but not Scott. Cash swears he will fight her in court, but Adrienne believes that the Colbys will not want a court battle - it will harm their business. Really? Monica agrees. What? Monica, you are a lawyer, why are you giving up so easily? Monica swears that all she wants is what is best for Scott, and for that reason, they should not fight for joint custody. Again, what?
Phillip wants everything that Jason took from him, and that means Frankie. Phillip keeps sneaking onto the Colby Estate to see Frankie. First, he catches her at the stables and Frankie is able to somewhat resist. She runs off. But that does not stop Phillip. At night, he breaks into the Pool House (he did not notice that Sable was in the pool and saw Phillip enter). This time Frankie does not resist. Yes, she says she doesn’t want to, but she does and it is obvious. Jason comes home a little earlier than expected and wants to have supper with Frankie before bed. Sable tries to stop Jason from going to the Pool House but he thinks it is just another one of Sable’s games. Jason probably wishes he had listened to Sable as he catches Phillip and Frankie together. Frankie, you slut!
Memorable Dialogue
Frankie: You could have come home.
Phillip: To what? A brother who hates my guts, an unavailable wife. Frankly, I preferred the jungle.
Frankie: I feel so ashamed.
Jason: You’re ashamed to marry me.
Frankie: No, I’m embarrassed. It was different when I thought he was dead. But now, how can I?
Jason: He will take your money and pour it down a bloody sewer full of rats.
Jeff: Don’t you think I know that?
Jason: Then why the hell are you giving it to him?
Jeff: I don’t want him to get this throat cut. Don’t you care about that? He’s your brother. Boy, it makes me wonder. God forbid any of the rest of us should fall out of line.
Sable: He wouldn’t betray me. Other people, perhaps. Not me, he loves me.
Monica: Does he love you as much as he hates daddy?
Sable: So, to hurt him, you hurt Monica and you hurt me. You’ve said you love me.
Zach: I do but you keep turning your back on me.
Sable: And you stabbed me. I hate you for what you’ve done.
Zach: I’d rather have your hate than your indifference.
Sable: I will never forgive you for betraying me.
Zach: We betray each other and we will again. You’ll always come back.
Sable: Never
Jason: I love that boy. I won’t let it happen.
Phillip: Love? I didn’t know that word was in your vocabulary. It sure as hell wasn’t when I was around.
Zach: You must hate your brother almost as much as I do.
Phillip: No, no, no. Never get mad, get even.
Adrienne: You’ll get your divorce, but you don’t get Scott. Did you really think you get to keep that tramp and my baby too.
