dynasty Episode 177 - THe Aftermath
Well, Matthew is dead again. I guess we can assume it is real for now, but you never know. Anyway, the family seems to be doing fine except for Steven who looks like a wreck. The police chief recommends to Blake that Steven should get some psychological help because he has the look of one who made his first kill. Neither Blake nor Krystle can get through to Steven who seems rather despondent. It is understandable, Steven did kill his friend who he thought was dead and whose wife he had an affair with. Yeah, I keep bringing that up, only because Claudia has never been mentioned by name. Besides, why feel so bad Steven, he was about to kill your father and had kidnapped your family.
Blake recruits Alexis to reach out to Steven. Alexis speaks to Steven and tells him that, while he may not want psychological help, he needs to talk about what had happened. Steven has a better idea. He returns to where the homicide occurred and looks at the chalk outline of Matthew's body. And, since Steven ruined Valdez, he takes his jeep for a rough ride through the mountains with thoughts of Matthew telling Steven that he cannot make it in Blake Carrington's world running through his head. This may have made sense in Season 3, but not now. Finally, Steven takes the jeep and appears that he is going to drive it off the ledge. No, he stops just short and claims victory over Matthew. Yes, he will survive in Blake Carrington's world, he just won't sing, "I Will Survive" to prove it. And you call yourself gay, Steven.
Steven returns to Delta Rho just in time to kick a reporter out of Sammy Jo's house since Sammy Jo is incapable of calling the police. Steven has some great news for Sammy Jo. Well, as great as it can get. He is not going to leave Denver. (He was still considering that option.) Steven will even live at Delta Rho but only if Sammy Jo can accept the fact that they will have different bedrooms. What's a woman to do? Why would Sammy Jo want to share a bed with a gay anyway even though she has been barking up that tree for a whole season now.
Fallon and Jeff return to Denver just for a few days because Jeff has some business in town. Fallon wants to tell Jeff about her experience in the desert and almost tells Blake but she continues to hold back. Instead, Fallon returns to Los Angeles for the day (why go to Denver in the first place, other than to waste jet fuel) and talks to her doctor who tells her that many reputable people have had alien experiences. Maybe, Fallon and Steven can see a shrink together and get a good bargain. Now that Fallon realizes that other people have had similar experiences, she is prepared to tell Jeff about what happened.
I wonder how it would seem would your spouse sits you down in a very serious conversation and tells you they had an extra-terrestrial experience. Jeff seems to take it well at first. What else is he going to say? Calling her Randall didn't go over pretty well last time. However, as Fallon wants to discuss it more, Jeff becomes more sarcastic and does not believe his wife. My favorite part is when Fallon says that the aliens smelled like cinnamon and Jeff asks if they were baking. C'mon Fallon, what kind of response were you expecting. Clearly, Fallon will not be getting any support from Jeff.
Adam is not thrilled that Jeff and Fallon are back in town, even if it is for a few days. Oh, that competition between Jeff and Adam will begin anew. Be grateful Adam, at least you were not on The Colbys for two years. While Adam is worried about Jeff's return, he is glad that Dana has agreed to start a family for him. There may be a problem with that, however, as Dana calls to try and make an appointment with her doctor. An appointment that Alexis happened to overhear Dana making. Why the big mystery? Odds are, Dana cannot conceive (of course I know this already). Have fun with your big family now, Adam.
Now that we have covered the Carrington children, sans Amanda, who is still thinking in England, maybe we can cover the main characters. Not just yet. We forgot about Leslie. Leslie finally meets her cousin Fallon (hates her) and her husband Jeff. The run-in with Jeff seems very familiar to her early run ins with Clay. At the same time, Leslie has now become project manager while Dex continues his recuperation. Leslie is moving up in the world. Good for her. Just wear some better clothes.
The party is pushing hard for Blake to run for governor. Which party? Well, they never say. Just the party. Blake does not know if it is the right time for him to run for governor even though it has always been a dream of his. Um, hello Blake, you are not getting any younger, so you might as well do it while you can. Blake was also concerned that the party was looking at Alexis as their candidate. Alexis's chances seem to have dimmed after her little bridge incident. Regardless, Krystle convinces Blake to run and he decides to take the plunge and announces the good news at a family dinner.
Alexis is still determined to find the man who rescued her. Or, at least, to get his name. Mr. Hess has little luck at first, as the mystery man has left the cabin without a trace. Mr. Hess finally proves his worth and is able to track down the man. Alexis rushes to him immediately, even missing Krystle's pot roast, and provides him with champagne and popcorn at the screening room where the mystery man seems to be watching film of a trial. Maybe Alexis should have cared more about what this man is watching than walking around with a bucket of popcorn (don't ask where she got it from). Also, it really did suck in the days before DVDs (VHS was available). Was an entire screening room that necessary?
Memorable Dialogue
Dex: Is that sincerity I hear coming from you?
Alexis: One crass remark and it won't be.
Alexis [to Krystle]: It was so nice of you to invite me to your party. I wouldn't miss your pot roast for the world.
