dynasty Episode 39 - The Will
Wouldn't you know, Cecil has died, and Alexis is now the grieving widow. The only person in the hospital to comfort her is Jeff. For all the power and wealth Cecil had, he only had two people that close to him. Alexis, who probably did marry him for the money and for revenge against Blake; and Jeff, the boy he raised who loved and hated him at the same time.
Even though she will not admit it, Alexis is very anxious to see what Cecil left her in the will. She seems overly obsessed about the reading of the will. When Fallon stops by to offer her condolences, Alexis finds it less than sincere and chastises Fallon for not wanting to attend the wedding and not telling her about L.B. Alexis accuses Fallon of only feigning concern because her mother is about to become a very rich woman. Why does Fallon need Alexis's money - she has Blake's.
Meanwhile, Fallon is becoming a modern woman, which really isn't sitting so well with the men. Jeff wants Fallon to stay home and raise the child and fears that she will be away too much. She would have regardless, who else hires a nurse? Blake hopes Fallon tires of this endeavor and believes she is only doing it to make herself independent of Jeff (is that a bad thing). The only person on Fallon's side, somewhat, is Krystle, but Fallon is too pig-headed and distrustful of Krystle to appreciate that.
Fallon has big plans for La Mirada as she hires a set designer to re-do the entire place, to make it into a pleasure palace. The old guard at La Mirada, including the regular customers, may not like the change - but Fallon is going full force at it. While working, Fallon, once again, runs into Michael/Adam and he convinces her to have a drink. Fallon still refuses to give her name but it does not prevent her from mentioning that she likes to sleep naked (funny, never saw that). Michael/Adam is even able to steal a kiss, but Fallon leaves after that. Phew!
MIchael/Adam is ready to leave Denver since he was rejected by Blake and could not find Alexis. Apparently, he is unaware that Alexis was there when Blake made his plea for the return on L.B. Joseph is no help in helping Michael/Adam to locate Alexis. Thank God for television, as Michael/Adam sees a news report on Cecil's funeral and the prospect that Alexis will soon become a very wealthy woman convinces Michael/Adam to remain in Denver.
Cecil has a surprise for Blake and Krystle at the reading of his will and wants the two of them to be there. Blake is game. When Krystle arrives early, Alexis accuses Krystle of having some sexual relation with Cecil and that she pursued Blake after Cecil rejected her. Projection much. The will is read. Cecil's cook gets $10,000 and a years salary. His executive secretary of 18 years, Katherine, (who apparently took Season 1 off since his executive secretary was some English woman named Jennifer), gets $50,000. The rest goes to Alexis unless she fails to produce a Colby heir. In that case - she gets half and Jeff gets half. Half is better than nothing and Alexis did not need to wreck her body again!
Cecil's surprise for Blake is the tape of Blake yelling at Logan Rhinewood from the hotel room. But, it was re-shot to have a basic white wall background. (Why do that?) Blake learns that Cecil is Logan and Cecil entrusts Alexis to finish the job of destroying Blake that he started. Of course, Blake believes Alexis is involved and the feud between the two is back on.
Alone, Alexis is angry that Cecil has put her in charge of destroying Blake. She cannot do it alone. You might not have to Alexis. She turns to see Michael/Adam, who tells the story of his kidnapping and how he might be Adam Carrington. He also tells Alexis that Blake rejected him and would not be surprised if she did so also. This time, Adam uses the silver rattle and presents it to Alexis. Alexis is too emotional to say anything but Michael/Adam gives her an out - to come visit him at La Mirada if she believes he to be her son. We all know what Alexis is going to do.
Memorable Dialogue
Alexis: And, however strong a woman thinks she is - there are times she really needs a man.
Fallon: About redecorating this place. I mean, totally redecorate it. I want to turn this place into a pleasure palace.
Billy: Like a class A bordello.
Fallon: Not quite.
Fallon: Jeff, why do you always think the worst of me?
Jeff: Well, believe me Fallon, it's not all that tough .
Alexis: Yes, you couldn't come to his wedding, but you'll be more than pleased to attend his funeral, is that it. And, after the funeral, there will be the will. And, after the reading of the will, mother may become a very rich woman. So, let's all be nice to mother in her grief.
Fallon: That is a sick thing to say.
Fallon: Is that the threat of a woman who is about to become very rich. If it is, it is an empty as you are, mother. Blake is worth millions, so I hardly need anything from you. God mother, I can just feel what you're going through. All that money and power riding on a few lines in Cecil's will. Is Alexis in or is Alexis out?
Adam: Do sheets, blankets and quilts do it to you?
Fallon: Only in July, you can throw in August too.
Adam: And how about nightgowns, during those hot months.
Fallon: I don't wear clothes to bed.
Adam: How about that - neither do I.
Krystle: You know something, Alexis. Every time I think you sunk about as low as you can go, you surprise me. You completely and thoroughly surprise and disgust me.
Alexis: Did I hit a nerve in that, oh so serene, body of yours.
Krystle: You're the one with nerve, Alexis. When you couldn't take Blake away from me, you went after Cecil and his billions. Nothing could stop you, even if it meant marrying him on his death bed.
Alexis: Are you insinuating that I forced Cecil to marry me in the hospital. Are you accusing me of killing my husband?
Krystle: No, I'm not. That never occurred to me until you just mentioned it.
Blake: Alright, try to take Denver Carrington away from me - just try. I'll fight you. I promise you, I'll fight you for the rest of my life.
