dynasty Episode 47 - Samantha

How do we know that things have been rough for Blake?  He has 5 o'clock shadow.  Well, if you actually pay attention, it really isn't hair but make up to make it look like Blake hasn't shaved in a day.  His hair also looks haggard.  Krystle is concerned about Blake's obsession with finding Steven alive.  Blake knows everyone thinks he is a crazy old fool for clutching onto the belief that Steven is alive and using the services of a psychic.  Adam doesn't think Blake is crazy and supports his father.  Gee, I wonder why?

Take that Blake!!!

Take that Blake!!!

With or without Blake, Alexis is going to go through with the memorial service for Steven.  Blake refuses to attend because he knows Steven is alive.  Now, a memorial service would not be important unless there is some other plot developments and drama.  Jeff looks like shit.  I guess Adam's new paint job is taking effect.  Jeff leaves to get some air, and Fallon actually shows concern.  Jeff rejects Fallon's concern and then rejects Kirby's.

Looking good Jeff

Looking good Jeff

Adam sees that Jeff is his competition for Kirby's affection.  I am sure Kirby would not think there is a competition.  Since Adam is poisoning Jeff, he knows that he will ultimately win this competition so he starts to play hard to get with Kirby.  First at the church, and then back at the Carrington mansion where he refers to Kirby as nothing more than the help.  Why won't Kirby listen to her father when Joseph tells her not to get involved with the Carringtons?

Joseph is always watching, Kirby!

Mark shows up at the service to talk with Krystle.  I mean, if they are supposed to be friends, why can't Krystle return Mark's call.  Krystle tells Mark that Blake is not comfortable with the two of them talking.  Mark plays the husband card and reminds Krystle they are still married.  Krystle will have none of that - her heart is with Blake, as well as the picture in her locket.  Alexis questions Mark why he attended the service, and Mark thanks Alexis for ruining his life.

Step one, offer the grieving woman a drink

Step one, offer the grieving woman a drink

Alexis seems genuinely upset that she ruined Mark's life, and I will stick with seems.  She is so upset that she goes to Mark at La Mirage (Mark is about to leave) and tells Mark she will do anything to make up for ruining his life.  Mark notices that Alexis seems genuinely upset since Alexis is crying and vulnerable.  There is only one response to this in soap operas (and a total blow to women's liberation), the comforting arms of a male.  Mark knows what Alexis needs - sex, but we won't call it sex, we'll call it companionship (a type Adam cannot provide).  Alexis is more than willing for the sexual attention - I mean companionship.  Does that work in real life?  Granted, I have never scoped funerals to sexually prey on the emotionally vulnerable, but still?

Step two - offer the grieving woman companionship

Step two - offer the grieving woman companionship

Steven's ugly lion thing makes an appearance back in his room (Yay!).  The psychic, Dehner, is not getting any sign of Steven and is ready to leave.  Clearly, Steven was not happy in the mansion and would not contact him there.  Is there something happier of Steven's for the psychic to use to get a reading.  Blake runs off to the site of Blaisdel #1 (this is the first time in a while we have been to the oil fields) and is followed by Krystle.  You know what would have been better - had Blake brought the psychic out there.

It's too much for Krystle

It's too much for Krystle

Krystle tries to comfort Blake out at Blaisdel #1 as Blake is clearly in pain.  (I am impressed that Krystle wore a white colored outfit and never managed to get any dirt on it.)  Blake does not need comforting, he needs Steven.  Krystle returns to the mansion and breaks down because she cannot reach Blake.  Fallon hears the crying and is willing to comfort Krystle.  Krystle first rejects Fallon's overture, but then returns and the two embrace.  Holy shit!  Steven has performed a miracle - a sort of reconciliation between Fallon and Krystle.

Who'd thunk it!

Who'd thunk it!

Blake, meanwhile, runs off to the Penthouse and demands Steven's jacket from Alexis.  Alexis agrees, anything to appease the crazy man.  Blake takes the jacket to Dehner and Denher starts to feel something.  He feels a present life force, bandages, and an inability to talk.  Blake is trying to make sense of it.

Have I got something for you, Blake

Have I got something for you, Blake

Wouldn't you know it, at that time Sammy Jo (who now goes by Samantha - for as long as that lasts) is on her way to Denver to get $1 million.  It's good to see Sammy Jo hasn't change, except for her name.  At the mansion, Samantha insists on seeing Blake, not Krystle.  Blake seems genuinely pleased to see Samantha, and does Samantha have a surprise for him - Steven Daniel Carrington Jr. ("Danny", not "Little Steven"). Blake beckons the entire family to the mansion, including Alexis, to introduce his grandson.  But before the introduction, Blake shaves or wipes off that dark make up on his face.  That is to whom the psychic is referring.  Blake says he has accepted Steven's death (quitter) and is glad to welcome his spirit into the house.

Blake needed to shave before introducing Danny to the family

Blake needed to shave before introducing Danny to the family

Krystle is happy to have Danny in the house as he may finally bring the family together and allow for healing.  Samantha overhears this and tells Krystle she is being a little presumptuous thinking Samantha and Danny will remain.  Krystle looks upset.  Now is Samantha going to get that $1 million.  Hmmm . . .

[A side note, if they ever re-did the Dynasty series, I think an awesome story line would be that Sammy Jo never gave birth to Danny and that is not Steven's son.  It is totally doable.]

Memorable Dialogue

Alexis:  The same moment I looked into your father's eyes and I saw there that obsession that Steven was still alive.  And why?  Because he is a guilty man who is responsible for that death and that's why he cannot accept it.
Fallon:  Responsible?  He isn't the only one who drove Steven away.

Alexis:  Well, I'm not talking about blame now.  That's more academic.

Adam:  Eavesdropping, Kirby.  I thought only servants play that sport in a house like this.   But, then again, I guess that's what you really are, aren't you?  The majordomo's daughter, and just one of the servants here.

Mark (to Alexis):  When a woman cries and begins to tremble, that's what a man does, especially when he realized that the woman's in trouble.  And, you are, I can see that now.  You're the one that's hurting, really hurting.
