dynasty Episode 51 - The Mirror
This episode takes place in a single day, the day after Jeff collapsed. How do we know this? Because, Krystle is wearing the same hideous outfit the entire episode. It look like something out of Little House on the Prairie where everything is pink and purple. In fact, just as Season 2 saw a lot of purple, Season 3 sees a lot of pink and purple, including Adam's suit. All very strange now while looking back.
Blake spent the night at the hospital with Jeff but Jeff does not seem to be grateful. He still has major anger issues with Blake and the entire Carrington clan. The neuro-toxin has not worn off just yet. He does recall signing a paper granting Fallon the right to get a divorce. Blake just knows that Jeff will eventually be himself one day.
Well, Adam and Alexis (by force) do not want Jeff to be normal again. Alexis is still hysterical that doctors will discover that Jeff has been poisoned. Adam tells his mother he will handle it. He first makes sure that all of the paneling in Jeff's office (soon to be Alexis's) is torn out, replaced and burned. This third re-decorating of the office piques the interest of Gerald, Colby Co.'s lawyer, but Adam puts Gerald in his rightful and lowly place. Adam then goes to the hospital to hit the staff up for information and learns that the lab has not discovered anything and they may never will.
Adam uses this information to assuage Alexis's fears, but Alexis has a better idea. She is going to ship Jeff off to a spa in Switzerland. Apparently, they do not have labs in Europe.
Jeff is visited by all sorts of people in the hospital. The best is when Kirby, who is now becoming a little bit stalkerish stops by and professes her love to Jeff. During her professing of love, Kirby is fantasizing about Jeff and she making love. It may have been a better idea for Kirby to look at Jeff instead because she would have noticed that he was asleep. Kirby blames Fallon for Jeff's illness and for ruining Jeff for her. To get even with Fallon (I guess), Kirby tells Adam she will work for Colby Co. as a French translator. That should make Joseph somewhat happy because he does not want her to be a nanny!
As Kirby starts hating on Fallon, Fallon remains in Haiti waiting for her divorce to be finalized. Mark is still there to keep her company and convince Fallon that he is more than just a stud horse. He can actually be a pretty decent guy. But, let's face it, all Mark really wants is to get down Fallon's blouse (among other things). After spending an innocent platonic day together, Mark tells Fallon he would like to kiss her, but Fallon does not want to ruin things. She just wants her divorce and return to her son.
Meanwhile, half a world away, Ben Reynolds (we all know it is Steven, so let's just call him that) is looking like Jason Vorhees from Friday the 13th Part II (before he gets the hockey mask). The doctor is worried Steven might not like his new face, but all Steven wants is to see his face. So do the rest of us. Finally, the unveiling and Steven is impressed with his new face, namely because no one would be able to recognize him. I am impressed that the doctor for some apparent reason decided to give Steven a mole on his cheek. It's those fine details that are ever so important.
Back in Denver, Adam is eager to get Alexis to confront Blake with the good news that she now has controlling interest in Denver Carrington. Alexis will do it in good time. For some strange reason, Dr. Edwards from Billings has a one hour lay over in Denver and pays Adam a visit. Adam is not happy to see him. The layover is an hour and you can some how make it to downtown Denver, visit a jerk, and catch the connecting flight. Good luck on that one. Dr. Edwards is concerned about Adam's health since Adam has a similar look that he had before when he had his breakdown relating to some drug addiction. (I still think Adam is a sociopath). Adam escorts Dr. Edwards out.
Alexis finally does pay Blake a visit after stopping by to the see the kids at the mansion and enjoying some champagne. Blake has no time for Alexis's antics and does not seem the least bit concerned when Alexis tells him that she now controls Denver Carrington and that she is going to call a board meeting of Denver Carrington and Colby Co to prepare to notify the SEC of the merger of the two companies with Alexis at the helm. Here is my lawyer nit-picking here - but you do not notify the SEC of a merger, but the FTC and/or DOJ - they have jurisdiction to permit a merger.
Alexis's triumph does not go as she plans as Blake receives a call from the hospital and learns that Jeff has been exposed a neuro-toxin. Alexis does not like the sounds of that.
Memorable Dialogue
Steven: Tell me something, doctor, if I don't like the results of what I see, is the next surgery on the house.
Alexis: I was just visiting the babies and I realized I was thirsty. I wonder if you have any cold champagne.
Hilda: Well, nothing open.
Alexis: Well, that's one of life's easier problems to remedy - isn't it Hilda?
Alexis: Is something the matter?
Krystle: It's just that you're an incredible contrast in moods, Alexis.
Alexis: [Laughs] That sounds almost profound coming from you.
Krystle: Last night you were in a state of hysteria over Jeff. Now, it's party time.
Alexis: Of course I was upset last night and rightly so, but I was certainly not hysterical.
Krystle: It seemed to me you were out of control.
Alexis: Out of control - is that what it means when I care about a man who means so much to me. Who really counted in my life? Who was there when I really needed him?
Krystle: Oh, you do protest. What did I do, Alexis, touch a nerve?
Mark: Fallon, I'd like to kiss you.
Fallon: Mark, don't spoil it.
Alexis: And begin to talk to me a little more civilly. You see, your grandson's shares of Denver Carrington and the shares Cecil worked so hard to amass are now worth more than 50% of your company, which means you are working for me.
Blake: I'll see you in hell before that happens.
Alexis: That's the future, let's continue talking about the present.
