dynasty episode 20 - the miscarriage
Just in case you had not figured out that Krystle was going to lose the baby, the writers made it easier for you - they entitled this episode, "The Miscarriage". And, to make matters worse, not only has Krystle lost the baby, the doctor recommends that she should not have another child. We all know what that means in soap opera land. Even better, we are only 20 episodes into the series, and we are already having flashbacks of the love between Blake and Krystle - the marital rape scene did not make the cut.
As will happen to Blake many times, the only one there for him is Jeff. His children seem to have better things to do. Jeff is unable to reach Fallon. When she arrives home, Alexis gives her some friendly advice about not being a whore. It kind of takes one to know one. Fallon is never going to listen to Alexis, so what was the point of this conversation.
Steven, meanwhile, is all sorts of messed up. Something really must have happened to his mind when he hit the pool railing. Sammy Jo takes him to a party with her racing buddies. How does she have racing buddies in the Denver area? Where exactly was Sammy Jo all this time - in Colorado with her father but the father only realized Krystle was there during the trial. Who knows? Anyway, Steven is challenged to a race the next day and he accepts. Holy Grease Batman! Wow! Steven really has come along way from discussing the poetry of Tennyson.
Steven loves the racing and is only upset that he did not win. Sammy Jo is excited because he made it a race. Fueled by adrenaline, and totally ignoring who he is, Steven kisses Sammy Jo and tells her that he loves her. Has it even been a week? Steven then takes Sammy Jo up to the cabin where he first made love to Claudia. Steven can't bring himself to do it - but not because he remembers he is gay. No, he is still in love with Claudia and wants to marry her. Steven tells Claudia that, but Claudia tells Steven she is in love with Matthew. Really Claudia, then why did you tell Dr. Nick that you hated Matthew and all that you wanted was to get Lindsey back? We also learn from Claudia's first interaction with Alexis, that she enjoyed 16 years with Lindsey. Wasn't she 14?
Alexis is concerned about Steven being a mess and all. Don't you know that gay men who decide to go straight end up with the first woman they see, and Alexis does not want that to be Sammy Jo. She talks to Blake about it, and Blake agrees to speak with Steven. Blake does talk to Steven, but Steven tells him not to worry, nothing is happening between him and Sammy Jo. You know, for an episode that is supposedly about Krystle's miscarriage - a lot of the focus (well at least my focus) was on Steven's total confusion.
Fallon thinks she might want something more with Nick. Nick had a great time, and the two will do it again, just not when Fallon wants. Fallon is nothing more than just another appointment. Who else is in that appointment book, Krystle, perhaps? Nick wishes.
As Alexis stalks around the mansion, she overhears Blake talking with Andrew about a Rashid Ahmed who is the person in control of Blake's oil. Blake needs to speak with this Ahmed and get that oil or else Denver Carrington would go bankrupt. It is a good thing for Alexis that she was tossed around the party circuit since she is now interested in finding and reuniting with Ahmed. (Joan Collins rolls the R in Rashid's first name - she must think she is still in Acapulco!)
Memorable Dialogue:
Fallon [to Alexis]: Look, why don' you just stay out of my life. You should be good at it - you've had 16 years of practice.
Fallon: I'll go to the hospital and visit her tomorrow and tell her how sorry I am she lost the baby, okay?
Jeff: What did you lose last night, Fallon? Your amateur status.
Alexis: Look, I've known young men who decide maybe homosexuality is not their lifestyle after all. So, they decide to settle down and marry. Except that they marry too fast and they marry the wrong woman. Maybe even some tart they pick up in a bar.
Claudia: We neurotics always cover ourselves with quilts that are sewn together with dark secrets - hadn't you noticed.
Joseph: From what I gather, your father was a hatter.
Alexis: Yes, actually he was. But, you should have researched it further, Joseph. My father was a hatter by appointment to his majesty the king. Very special hats, Joseph. So put that on your tedious head and wear it.
Blake [to Steven]: You're the only son I'm ever going to have.
