The Colbys Top Scenes - You Stole My Husband

by That Paragon of Sanctity in

It took Sable a while, but it appears that she has finally accepted that Jason and Frankie will be married. When Sable finally signs the divorce agreement, she gives Jason some friendly advice - wait to marry Frankie. Frankie will hurt Jason (and she does).

For some reason, Frankie, always the glutton for punishment, seeks to move on with the sister whose husband she stole. Sable, rightly, will not let Frankie off the hook. Frankie should forever feel guilt for what she is doing. At least this time Sable is a bit more subdued but her message is just as lethal. Frankie will never be able to replace Sable in Jason’s heart or home.

A part of Frankie should know that, but she is determined to move forward anyway, but she will not get Sable’s forgiveness. Beacham is perfect in this scene as she tones down her dramatics except at the right moments. Meanwhile, Ross looks afraid for her life, like Beacham is going to jump her at any moment - and who would blame Beacham/Sable if she did.

The Colbys Top Scenes - Walking Ad for Adultery

The conflict between Sable and Frankie heated up on Season 2 of The Colbys as it became apparent that Sable would lose out to her younger sister. Desperate to keep Jason and Frankie apart, Sable accused Jason of beating her. And now Sable is desperate to get out of her lie before she gets into real trouble. Sensing Sable’s vulnerability, Frankie actually stands up to her sister - which may not have been the wisest decision while Sable was wielding a riding crop.

In this verbal spar - Sable scores points for calling Frankie a walking ad for adultery (not entirely untrue, even though Sable finally succumbed and slept with Zach) and wondering who is Frankie’s keeper. Frankie lamely retorts about not losing something you never had (really!) but does have the upper hand as she knows that Sable’s lie will be exposed and Sable may face real consequences.

In the end, Sable is able to get out of her lie - but the fight between the sisters will continue.

The Colbys Top Scenes - Regular Hive of Inactivity

Sable thought that she finally got rid of her sister Frankie, but as “fate” would have it, Frankie’s husband, Roger received a new post in Los Angeles. What an amazing coincidence and Sable is definitely not happy as she rightly views Frankie as a threat to her marriage. (As I have complained numerous times, why anyone would leave Sable for Frankie is beyond me.)

Even though Jason agreed to stay with Sable, he is not going to make her like it and he drags Sable to a reception being thrown for Roger’s new post. For some strange reason, Jason expected Sable to behave herself. Not going to happen especially after Sable gave Miles the letter from Phillip to go after Jeff. Much credit to Sable for getting in three amazing digs at Frankie - the best being the final one - “I don’t give a damn about your little bastard or you, you slut.” One thing I don’t get - what makes Jeff a “little bastard”

What If There Was a Season 3 of The Colbys?

by That Paragon of Sanctity

Unfortunately for The Colbys, it was cancelled just at it was hitting its stride (going up against Cheers will not help any show’s rating). Based on Dynasty, we get some resolution to the Colbys Season 2 Cliffhangers:

  • Frankie survives the crash and runs off with Jason

  • Monica has no contact with Cash or Scott so they must have gone back to Washington D.C. and Monica decided not to fight

  • Miles likely did not find Channing since he was with Fallon in the Reunion

  • The aliens return Fallon and her talking about it ruins her marriage to Jeff

The real love triangle

Of course, if there was an actual Season 3 of The Colbys, things would have been different and we can only speculate. So, let me speculate:

  • Frankie was going to be killed off. I believe Katharine Ross said she was not coming back and getting rid of Frankie sets up some great storylines: Jeff blaming Jason for Frankie’s death and a love triangle among Jason/Sable/Zach (which should have always been the primary love triangle).

  • There should be the custody batter for Scott.

  • Miles finds Channing and stops her from getting the abortion. The plot line with Lucas (Jason’s lawsuit) had not been resolved. And, Channing has a younger brother who could make an appearance.

  • Bliss and Kolya are definitely gone.

  • Even though Phillip escaped from the crash, you can spend a few episodes pretending to look for him and then just ignore him. (As was done with Dr. Nick Toscani and Joel Abrigore). Maybe a Phillip can appear in a Season 6 of The Colbys.

  • As for Fallon and the UFO - it should be used the same way that it was used on Dynasty - to drive a wedge between her and Jeff (intensified by Jeff fighting with Jason).

Obviously, there would be newer characters and storylines but that is how I would like to have seen the cliffhangers of Season 2 resolved. (I really, really wanted Frankie to die!)
