The Colbys Episode 11 - "Thursday's Child"

Poor Sable tries one last time to seduce Jason and to get him to stop moving forward with the divorce.  Jason, however, will have none of it.  After calling Frankie a tramp and a slut, Sable shows the letter that Philip wrote claiming that Francesca was not carrying his child.  Jason refuses to believe the letter, and thinks Sable may have forged it.  But, something must have got to Jason because he immediately decides to fly out to London to see Francesca.  It will have to wait until Francesca returns from Rome.

When Sable mentions the letter to her attorney, her attorney informs her that if Jeff is not a Colby, then Jeff cannot accept Connie's shares of stock as stipulated in Connie's father's will.  This is great news for Sable, who I am sure will not try to use it to her advantage at all.

How can he resist?  And for Frankie?

How can he resist?  And for Frankie?

In Rome, Francesca convinces Jeff (despite the horrible acting, again) that Philip is his father.  Before his death, Philip was going mad in Saigon and just was not himself.  He may have written the letter but it does not mean what he says is true.  Jeff is convinced.  So easy!  Too bad this is the days before Maury Povich and DNA testing, it is more reliable than just having Francesca say it is true.  Besides, what else would Frankie say.  I mean if she had been lying all these years, why give it up now.

Yes, this Frankie

From Rome, Jeff flies to Athens to meet the captain of the ship that was responsible for the spill in San Miguel Harbor.  As luck would have it, Jeff arrives to find the police and a priest attending to the dead captain.  Clearly, the scene was staged to make it look like the captain committed suicide but the investigator easily noted that the knot was not one an experienced seaman would use.  The captain was murdered.  Hmmm . . .I wonder who could have ordered it.

We actually get a little more of Bliss in this episode.  Hooray!  Jason tells Bliss that Sean is Zach Power's nephew and Bliss is devastated.  She hates being used as some sort of pawn in this horrible game of business.  When Bliss confronts Sean, Sean tries to assert that he was not using Bliss but that he truly loves her and wants to marry her.  Bliss does not buy it.  Looks like she will be spending more time at home, which makes Sable happy.  But, what does not make Sable happy is that she learns that Zach is now using Bliss to get his revenge on Jason.  Sable might have to talk to Zach, but after she talks to the person who designed Bliss's bedroom - God the 80s were horrible.

God, the 80s suck

Speaking of horrible things from the 80s - we have the shooting of Wayne's music video.  Again, the decor would give a normal person a seizure.  But everyone loved it.  Good thing that Wayne could not see it, or else he would demand to be blind.  Afterward, Monica wants to speak to Wayne and Neil seems a tad jealous.  Wayne asks Monica for an extreme close up which means he will touch her face to see what she looks like.  Does that seriously work.  Besides, he barely touches her cheek and declares that she is beautiful.  Seriously, you only touched the left side of her face.  What if she had a conjoined fetus on the right side?  Did you ever think of that Wayne.  Wayne also blames his seeing eye dog for not telling him how beautiful Monica was.  Maybe Monica was not the dog's type.

I mean, they really sucked!

Monica also plays matchmaker with Connie and Hutch.  After visiting Connie in the hospital, Monica learns from the doctor that Connie is not recovering as quickly as hoped because she has nothing and no one to recover for.  Family be damned.  Monica realizes that Connie is missing Hutch so she pays Hutch a visit.  Hutch is worried and wants Monica to relay a message to Connie.  Monica tells Hutch to deliver it himself, which he does.  He also tells Connie that she loves him and Connie says the same back - with Barbara Stanwyck saying "I love you" in one of the weirdest ways possible.  It's kind of like she is crying or that she has Parkinson's and is shaking while saying it.

No wonder Connie does not want to leave the hospital.

Yes, that last line was insensitive of me.  And since we are being insensitive, it is time to discuss rape as a story line.  It was so common in soap operas and was used twice on Dynasty.  So, let's use it on the Colbys.  Always filled with anger, Miles presents Fallon with the annulment papers.  Earlier, he presented Fallon with a puppy for L.B.  I guess the puppy is better.  Fallon hates what she is doing to Miles and claims she still loves him.  That is the cue that Miles needs to force himself on Fallon.  And since this is a soap opera, Fallon does not go to the police after being raped by Miles.  Instead, she decides to go back to Denver and take L.B. with her.

Sable sees a distraught and angry Fallon the next morning and tries to convince her to stay with Miles.  Wow, Sable, your timing is really off on this one.  Fallon does not tell Sable what Miles had done to her last night but Sable senses it cannot be good.  During their heated conversation, Sable does mention that Jeff is a fraud and that Philip is not his father.  Fallon will not take the bait, but she does tell Jeff that Sable knows.  Jeff relays that to Frankie.  Frankie tells Jeff that there is nothing to be afraid of because Philip is his father.  At the same time, Jeff claims the past few days have been the happiest of his life and that he finally has the mother he always envisioned.  What?  How is that even possible.

Looks familiar for Dynasty Season 8 opening.  Whatever happens to this dog?

Once again, Sable demands that Zach take his Matisse and get out of her life.  She is tired of having Zach use her family and still wonders for what he is using Sable.  Zach asserts that the only thing he wants Sable for is her love.  He sees the passion between the two of them so why must Sable fight it.  Sable puts up a brave front but it results in a fierce heated moment between the two.  She slaps him, he slaps her back, the two kiss and as soon as Sable gets into it, Zach pulls away and leaves.  Funny, I kind of remember something very similar happening between Dex and Alexis in Hong Kong with the only difference being that Dex and Alexis did more than just slap each other.

Why is Sable so loyal to a man who does not love her anymore, assuming that he ever did.  Frankie returns to London to see Jason waiting for her.  Here comes Jason ruining everything by asking Frankie if Jeff is his son.  Great, just great.

Then gets very intense!

Memorable Dialogue

Jason:  I have never been unfaithful to you.
Sable:  Then what were you doing with my sister, playing tiddely winks?

Jason:  Miles. . .
Miles:  If you think you can buy me back with a bear hug and a pat on the head - forget it.  You got a clear cut choice - Francesca or your family.

Sable: [To Fallon] Jeff is my sister's illegitimate son.  I found a letter from Philip that spells it out.  Jeff tried to burn it, of course, but his aim is as poor as his claim to being a Colby.

Zach:  You over-estimated me.  I'm not Machiavelli.  I'm just a simple man who wants a very complicated woman.
Sable:  That's impossible and always will be.
Zach:  Don't waste yourself on a man who doesn't appreciate you or your love.
Sable:  That's not true.
Zach:  Now, you are lying.

Zach:  Don't be foolish, Sabella.  You're right.  It's time for the truth.  We are two people who lust for the same things and we will have them - money, power, beauty and that touch of danger that makes it exciting.  We are fire and fuel, mi amor.  You can have that fire now.  Later, you will beg.
