the colbys episode 21 - “A family affair”
Why does it seem that Jeff’s arrest is nothing more than a vehicle to move forward with the Jason-Sable-Frankie love triangle. Oh, and I guess as part of Moretti’s revenge campaign against Jason that seemed to manifest out of nowhere? Jeff swears he never even met with Lavatis, so why are the Greeks charging him with the crime? And, more importantly, who is setting he and Miles up for murders that they did not do (maybe Miles did?)?
Sable continues to play the supportive wife and Colby, but Connie still is not convinced. Connie has that tape and she knows Sable is a liar. Amazing it took Connie over 20 years to reach this conclusion. Connie learns from Monica that taping conversations without the participants permission is a crime and it cannot be used in court. But, it could still be used to pressure parties to a civil litigation. What the hell are you doing Connie? How much longer are you going to sit on this - I mean there is only three more episodes this season.
Sable used Jeff’s arrest as an opportunity to get back into Jason’s bed, while Jason uses it as an opportunity to pursue Frankie (who of course is rushing back from Acapulco to be there for Jeff while not actually spending time with him). While in bed with Sable, Jason can’t help himself but to call Frankie at 1am, tell her about Jeff and to tell her that he wants to be with her. Jason is seriously like a dog in heat. Can’t he give it a rest. Meantime, Sable, who has mastered her eavesdropping skills manages to hear the conversation. and contemplates her next move.
The new Sable decides not to confront Frankie about this when Frankie moves back into the guest house. Instead, Sable asks Frankie for a truce while telling her that she and Jason spent the night together. Ahhhh, I see what you are doing here Sable - make it difficult for Frankie to accept that Jason really is through with Sable. Seriously, who can blame Sable? If I was Frankie, I would always be looking over my shoulder - something Frankie will learn the hard way.
Jason seems rather desperate over the plight of his two sons. He barges into Moretti’s office just to spout off. But, worse, Jason, who believes Zach is behind everything, decides to make peace with Zach. Jason offers Zach the right to ship all the Carrington oil if he will back off on his sons. Zach still contends that he has nothing to do with the murders and explains to Jason why he hates him so. Apparently, Zach has gone to the Dr. Nick Toscani school of revenge and blames the Colbys for his father’s suicide. Even though this occurred while Jason was a child, the sins of the father must be visited on the sons and Jason is the only son left alive. (Good thing Connie is a woman.) I guess Jason’s attempt to make amends with Zach did not go well.
Zach is not thrilled that Spiro has yet to find out who was responsible for the murders. Zach’s good name is being smeared - by which he means that Sable asks if he is responsible. How can Zach get Sable to repay him for everything if she believes that Zach is responsible for her son’s arrest? Sable does believe that Zach is not involved and asks him to tell her any information that he learns. Of course Zach would do so - it would put Sable further into his debt.
Spiro may have an additional storyline brewing as he has a chance encounter with Bliss. We got to use Bliss for something. Anyway, Bliss wants to return the engagement ring (class ring) that Sean gave her, and goes to Zach’s office to get Sean’s new address only to meet Spiro. Spiro flirts with her and you can tell he hopes to see her again. What is the age difference between these two? Sean finally does see Bliss at the mansion but refuses to accept the ring. The two kiss one last time. Hopefully, we have beaten this dead horse of a storyline for the last time.
Just so as not to forget everything before getting to the ending, I should note that Miles finally confides in Monica that he could have killed Mahoney because he had blacked out that night. Why couldn’t Miles have just listen to his mother? Meanwhile, Monica does not believe that Miles could murder anyone. Really, Monica?
It appears that Greek authorities have a witness that can put Jeff at the scene of the crime - some taxi driver. Jeff wants to go to Greece to confront the witness, but Jason won’t allow it since the Greek authorities will arrest him on the spot (Jason is thinking). Jason will go to Greece, but before he does, he needs to find out from Frankie what her feelings for him are. (Jason is not thinking.) Frankie does want to marry Jason, as soon as he is free from Sable. Even better, Frankie tells Jason that she wants to join him in Greece. Oh, how romantic.
Somehow, Zach is aware of the plan of the two and relishes in telling Sable. Now, we all know that Sable won’t take this lightly. Jason and Frankie prepare to board the jet to go to Greece when Frankie suggests that they spend a few days alone together in Mykonos. Yes, that really makes sense. Good thing Jason tells her that he can’t because Miles’s hearing is coming up. Frankie understands but she is just glad to have this time alone with Jason - without Sable. No such luck Frankie, as the two board the plane they are greeted by Sable (with a classic “Welcome aboard!”) who is there to join them for moral support. Got to love Sable!
Memorable Dialogue
Zach (to Sable): You are already in my debt - you know? But don’t let it worry you. The price will be sweet to pay and sweeter still to collect.
Zach: I’ve been waiting for this for many many years - Jason Colby groveling at my feet.
Jason: Yes, you’re right, that’s what I’m doing - groveling. My sons. Tell me, why do you hate me so much?
Zach: It’s very simple - you killed my father.
Jason: Whatever happened, it wasn’t in my time.
Zach: In your father’s. And, the father’s sins are visited on his sons. Phillip is dead. So is Cecil. It is only you, Jason, only you to pay for it.
Monica: You’re not a killer.
Miles: They got the murder weapon.
Monica: You couldn’t have done it. I know that, Miles. You’re my other half.
Miles: Yeah - what if I’m your darker half.
