dynasty Episode 100 - The Will
Even though Blake is going to fly off to Sumatra to see his father, he clearly has no love for the man. This should come as no surprise because Blake has hardly mentioned his father. What also should come as no surprise is that Alexis adores Tom and wants to go to see him also. Blake will not go with Alexis. As always, that does not stop Alexis, who show up in Sumatra. But there is a surprise for Alexis, Dominique is there also. Why?
Tom is a crusty old figure whose dying/death kind of reminds me of Yoda, without the love. Tom remains tough with Blake. But, he is not as tough with Blake as he was with Ben, Blake's brother, who was kicked out of the house years ago and with Blake's approval. That's a set-up for a future plot line. Meanwhile, Dominique tries to force Tom to acknowledge her paternity, but Tom remains defiant.
Back in the States, Kristina is coming home. Too bad only Krystle will be there to bring the baby home. While on the phone with Blake, Krystle becomes audibly upset when she learns that Alexis is there. Blake brings up Daniel Reece. So, now they both look like jerks. Fortunately, the connection goes bad so we can stop seeing this immaturity between adults.
Immaturity is all that you see in the Penthouse. With Alexis away, Amanda and Dex are forced to be together alone. Amanda suggest Dex get a hotel room so as to ease the attraction between the two. Dex assures her that he can control himself. (We also learn that Dex and Daniel Reece were in the military together. This show will do anything to remind us how attractive Rock Hudson was.) Amanda is not thrilled.
Late one night, Dex arrives home to see Amanda sleeping on the couch. Now, I can understand Dex being polite by trying to gently wake her, but he could have positioned himself better. Amanda awakes and then tries to move in on Dex. Dex walks off. Next time, just throw a pillow at her to wake her up.
Claudia and Steven are pretty much through. Let's face the inevitable. Adam senses it because he already has Claudia on his radar. And, Luke senses it because he has Steven on his radar. We finally learn what has been hinted at for the last few episodes - Luke is gay. Just because Luke is gay it does not mean he cannot have a platonic friendship with an ex-gay. Gee, we heard that same line with Chris Deegan. And, as a friend, Luke invites Steven to dinner. Steven, as a friend, reluctantly accepts. I love how all the gay characters on the show have to insist everything is being done as a friend.
I don't recall Adam inviting Claudia to dinner as a friend and Claudia accepting as a friend. (The two happen to be in Washington D.C. together doing business.) Well, maybe they don't insist on everything being done as friends, because Adam wants something more. After dinner, Claudia, an apparent lightweight, is a little tipsy from cognac. Adam moves in, but is no where as aggressive as he was with Kirby. He's learning. Adam dances with Claudia and does steal a kiss. Claudia gently puts an end to that.
So, Nicole is actually in love with Jeff. She would rather have Jeff than the treasure. What? Take the treasure, girl. Jeff just walks off. He is still very much in love with Fallon and even pictures himself with Fallon when he is with Nicole. He just needs closure so he can move on with his life. How to get closure? He is going to find that treasure with Nicole and continue to be intimate with her, if that is what it takes. By the way, I'd love to see what the full map looks like.
Tom realizes that his number is up, so it is time for his deathbed confessions. He finally does make amends with Blake and acknowledge that Dominique is his daughter. That last bit of news comes as a surprise to Alexis, but she really cannot react at that point. Tom does not reveal that there is another Skywalker (he kind of does recognize there is another Carrington) but he does pass. And, since everyone is there (and brought mourning attire), they might as well read the will pronto. Tom splits his estate between Alexis, Dominique and Blake. To add salt to the wound, Tom appoints Dominique executor of his estate. That does not sit well with Alexis but Dominique reminds her they are one big family now so suck it up and deal!
Memorable Dialogue
Krystle: He's your father.
Blake: I know. He might as well my my mortal enemy.
Tom [to Blake]: At least you're still honest. You've always been a paragon of that peculiarity.
Tom [to Alexis]: The beautiful girl who likes to shock everyone - like me.
Lawyer [reading Tom's will]: So, I Thomas Fitzsimmons Carrington, being of sound mind. . .
Alexis: We're all familiar with the formalities, just get on with the reading please.
Alexis: Executor of the legacy that Blake and I were going to leave to our children. I'll fight this travesty through every possible court and I'll break it.
Dominique: Just a moment, Alexis. Now you loathe me and I despise you. But, it is time for us to face the fact we're all one big. . . family, now.
