dynasty episode 8 - The Necklace
Blake feels guilty for raping his wife. Yes, I know at this time people did not refer to such matters as marital rape, but it is what it is. Blake's guilt is compounded by the fact that Krystle is despondent and refuses to answer his calls. Blake comes home and gives Krystle some flowers and apologizes for pushing her so hard to have a child. He just wanted a piece of him inside of her before it is too late. Kind of gross and totally missing the point. Krystle forgives Blake.
Ah, if Fallon was only so forgiving. Not that Krystle needs Fallon's forgiveness. Not yet, maybe. Bored, and with Jeff in Paris, Fallon decides to slum it and pay a visit to Michael in the servant's quarters. With a little flirtatious dance, Michael tells Fallon that Krystle pawned the emerald necklace but promises to keep it to herself. Fallon has no intention of saying anything but she does ask Krystle to borrow the necklace for a party. Krystle, though worried, agrees. When Krystle gives Fallon a replica of the necklace, Fallon says she cannot wear it, since the necklace is such a symbol of Blake's love for Krystle. Fallon could not interfere with that. Yeah, you should be feeling quite guilty Krystle.
You should also feel guilty Krystle because your continued feelings for Matthew is bothering Claudia. Claudia feels her life and family will never get back on track because of Krystle. When Matthew does not want Claudia to join him on the oil well that is about to come in, Claudia accuses Matthew of having an affair. Matthew denies it. Claudia's response - she goes to probably the last disco in Denver where she is immediately pounced upon by several men. She decides to spend the evening at the disco with some guy named Larry. Larry, since he did waste an entire night with this women, expects more when he brings her back to his place. Claudia comes to her senses and runs off.
Well, she does not completely come to her senses. She calls Steven who picks her up and brings her back to his car. Steven also tells Claudia that he is going to the family cabin for a little time. Claudia wishes she could go. No need to wish Claudia when you can just show up, which is what Claudia does. Claudia needed to get away after confronting Krystle in an art gallery. Since Krystle never denied having sex with Matthew while Claudia was away, it must be true. Claudia asks Steven to hold her. We all know what that means. Bingo! The two end up making love, which is odd since Claudia considered the kiss from Steven before to be more of the brotherly type. There is also this ring of cougarism to the whole thing. Claudia is about 30 and Steven is maybe 24-5. Steven clearly likes them older. This is also the first woman that Steven has been with, and Claudia loves his gentleness. Which is stranger? Claudia sleeping with a homosexual or Steven sleeping with a crazy woman okay with sleeping with a homosexual. Who knows?
Good times for Matthew as the well finally comes in. After the men celebrate, Matthew returns home to find Lindsey by herself. (Claudia is too busy hanging out with Steven). At least Matthew was kind enough to get Lindsey a box of chocolates, and Claudia a record. The cost of oil must have been really low back then. Lindsey is still upset that she is a bastard. Matthew assures her that she was the product of love, like any love child is, and that they would have married regardless. Matthew also tells Lindsey that he loves Claudia more than anything else in the world. Yeah, if that was true, why is your wife having sex with a homosexual.
Memorable Dialogue
Claudia: I made a mistake - I'm married
Larry: So am I, what difference does that make
Claudia [to Steven]: There's a beautiful gentleness about you - tenderness that transcends gender.
